African American Stereotypes in Hollywood

“First was the Anglo Saxon belief that the color white represented things that were pure, clean, good and reflective of the spiritual light. The color black on the other hand, represented impurity, filth, evil, and spiritual darkness. Both concepts persist today.”(Wilson II, Gutierrez, Chao, 2013 p.58).

Within various films and television shows there is stereotyped characters of different races. In this movie scene there is a clear  image of African American men are shown to be inflicting fear and violence against the pure white female character. This depiction not only creates a generalized antagony of African Americans but it also plays off of the notion that those with darker skin are evil and uncivilized.
