Race in News Media

“Superficial and oversimplied news reporting of isolated and racially tinged events is often structured to conform to existing attitudes and perceptions of Whites and the hegemonic social system” (Wilson II, Gutierrez, Chao, 133).

I feel that this political cartoon is efficient in its depiction of the relationship between Blacks and the media. Media outlets are absolutely drawn to the headlines the possess shock value, as opposed to the stories that actually contain substance. This system of only presenting the bad in minorities only perpetuates the idea that minorities are the inferior in this social system. #dontbelievethehype #substanceoverhype #shockvalue #smellsinhere #fiatoa
