“Media images and coverage of people of color have a double impact. They help frame and shape what others think of the people whose images they see in the media. They also have an impact of the self image of the people portrayed and what they think of the United States and its media. The Effect of this double-edged media sword was reinforced in the years following the September 11, 200, attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon as the nation’s media increased their attention to the Arabs and Middle Eastern people and painted a radicalized image of the followers of Islam.” – Racism, Sexism, and the Media (Wilson II, Gutiérrez, Chao, 2013, page 49)
The absolutely despicable thing about terrorists who claim to be fighting on behalf of Islam (besides the obvious, you know, genocide and such) is how the global media’s coverage basically crucifies ALL Muslims. Giving terrorist organizations 24/7 media coverage negatively paints all Muslims, and that’s exactly what these terror organization’s goals is. These tactics lead to a cultural divide between their target audience and their host country, and we cannot stand for it. The more a country persecutes or mistreats their Muslim population, the higher chance for homegrown terrorism, but this could be said about any population which is treated as such. Remember what Hitler’s government caused an entire country to do with his “us” versus “them” mentality..
