Week 4

“From the Age of Exploration (beginning in the 15th century) onwards, black bodies have been
treated as “other. Black men were thought to be low in intelligence but to possess great physical
prowess. This so-called empirical evidence was based on observations in non-European parts of
the world, and in turn led to the conclusion that black men’s bodies are more animal-like than other
humans, and that, in addition to their unusually strong bodies, these men were highly sexed creatures with extraordinary genitals.” (William M. O’Barr, 2012, p. 14)

This photo has all black male models that are baring their physique but none of them are the focus. Their bodies are used to just add to the appeal of the picture but the center is a pupular white woman model.
